How Many VR Machines Do You Need for a 50m², 100m² or 200m² VR Arcade?

Practical Equipment Counts and Layout Examples for Different Venue Sizes

Commercial VR arcade with different VR machines and clear customer walkways

The number of VR machines a venue can hold depends on more than its total floor area. The size of each machine, player capacity, safety clearance, queueing space and customer walkways must all be considered before making an equipment list.

As a simple starting point, operators can allow approximately 10 square meters for one standard commercial VR machine. This figure includes part of the operating and circulation space around the equipment, rather than only the physical footprint of the machine.

Based on this initial calculation:

•  A 50m² VR arcade can usually accommodate about 4–5 machines.

•  A 100m² VR arcade can usually accommodate about 8–10 machines.

•  A 200m² VR arcade can usually accommodate about 14–18 machines.

These are planning ranges, not fixed numbers. A venue with compact seated machines may hold more units, while a venue with a large VR Arena or several high-motion attractions will hold fewer.

Quick VR Arcade Equipment Planning Guide

50m² / approximately 538 sq. ft.

Suggested quantity: 4–5 machines. The equipment plan should focus on compact machines and a balanced mix of experiences.

100m² / approximately 1,076 sq. ft.

Suggested quantity: 8–10 machines. The venue can combine seated, interactive, shooting and motion-based VR equipment.

200m² / approximately 2,153 sq. ft.

Suggested quantity: 14–18 standard and medium-sized machines, with more multiplayer equipment and a wider range of game content.

200m² with a VR Arena

A possible plan is approximately 8–12 individual machines plus one VR Arena. The number of separate machines is lower, but the venue can serve more multiplayer groups.

The final equipment quantity should be confirmed after the equipment dimensions and CAD floor plan have been reviewed.

Why You Should Not Calculate the Machine Count from Floor Area Alone

A machine may occupy only a few square meters, but the operating area around it is often much larger.

A practical VR arcade layout also needs space for:

•  Player entry and exit

•  Staff operation

•  Customer queues

•  Spectators

•  Safety barriers

•  Main walkways

•  Headset cleaning

•  Equipment maintenance

•  Reception and payment

•  Storage and waiting areas

For preliminary planning, Skyfun generally recommends leaving at least one meter around stationary equipment. High-motion equipment may require at least two meters of surrounding safety space. The final clearance must follow the specifications of the selected machine and local safety requirements.

Trying to fit too many VR machines into a small venue can make the arcade feel crowded. It can also create longer loading times, interfere with customer movement and make equipment maintenance more difficult.

The objective is therefore not to install the greatest possible number of machines. It is to create a practical equipment mix that allows each machine to operate efficiently.

Recommended Equipment Mix for a 50m² VR Arcade

A 50m² venue is suitable for a small VR experience center, a shopping mall store or a compact entertainment area inside an existing business.

This size can normally accommodate four or five VR machines.

A possible equipment combination is:

•  One four-player VR cinema

•  One two-player 360° VR simulator

•  One two-player interactive VR platform

•  One two-player VR shooting machine

•  One compact children’s or entry-level VR machine

For example, a two-player 360° attraction such as the Extreme Halo can provide a high-motion experience, while a VR cinema offers a simpler option for first-time players.

The equipment should not all provide the same type of content. A small venue has limited floor space, so every machine should serve a different purpose.

One machine might focus on viewing and motion effects, another on shooting, and another on interaction or competition. This gives customers more reasons to try a second game during the same visit.

A compact venue should also avoid using too many large machines. Otherwise, there may not be enough room for queues, staff operation and safe customer movement.

Recommended Equipment Mix for a 100m² VR Arcade

A 100m² VR arcade provides more flexibility. It can usually accommodate approximately eight to ten machines, depending on their dimensions.

A possible combination is:

•  One four- or six-player VR cinema

•  One two-player 360° VR simulator

•  One four-player VR shooting machine

•  One two-player interactive VR platform

•  One VR escape room attraction

•  One children’s VR machine

•  One VR racing, motorbike or flight simulator

•  One or two compact supporting attractions

A venue of this size should include entry-level, interactive and high-motion experiences.

For children, a colorful and easy-to-understand machine such as the VR Panda Trooper can reduce the difficulty of trying VR for the first time.

Teenagers and young adults may prefer competitive shooting, racing, escape-room content or multiplayer games. A product such as the four-player Assault Team can serve several players while creating a more social experience.

For a 100m² venue, the entrance should remain visually open. Machines with attractive lighting or visible motion can be placed near the front, while seated cinema equipment and experiences that require more concentration can be placed farther inside.

Recommended Equipment Mix for a 200m² VR Arcade

A 200m² venue can operate as a more complete VR experience center. It normally has enough space for approximately 14–18 standard and medium-sized machines.

The equipment mix may include:

•  A six-player VR cinema

•  Two-player and four-player VR shooting machines

•  VR racing and motorbike simulators

•  VR flight or aircraft simulators

•  VR horse-riding or bicycle simulators

•  A VR escape room

•  Children’s VR machines

•  Two-player 360° or 720° attractions

•  Multiplayer interactive equipment

•  Several compact entry-level machines

The machines should be divided into clear experience zones. For example, children’s machines and simple cinema experiences can form one area, while shooting and competitive attractions form another. High-motion machines should have their own safety space and should not block the main walkway.

A 200m² venue may also choose to include a VR Arena. A free-roaming Arena can require approximately 36–100m², depending on player capacity and the selected setup.

If a large VR Arena is included, the total number of individual machines will naturally decrease. A possible plan is one Arena plus eight to twelve other machines. Although there are fewer separate units, the venue can serve larger groups and provide multiplayer experiences for families, friends and corporate events.

This is why the machine count should always be considered together with player capacity. Ten multiplayer attractions may sometimes serve more customers than fifteen single-player machines.

A Real Skyfun Project: The 3,000m² Guilin FEC

One floor-planning drawing from Skyfun’s 3,000m² family entertainment center project in Guilin, Guangxi, China.

In July 2026, Skyfun completed a 3,000m² family entertainment center project in Guilin. The venue combines VR attractions, sports arcade machines, console gaming and multiplayer entertainment.

This project is much larger than a standard 50m², 100m² or 200m² VR arcade, but it demonstrates the same planning principles.

Before equipment installation, the venue was divided according to equipment dimensions, main walkways, customer flow, queueing requirements and the needs of different customer groups. Rest areas and supporting entertainment zones were also included instead of filling every available space with machines.

Skyfun provided floor planning, 3D design, equipment selection, equipment supply, on-site installation, system testing and staff training for the project.

How Many VR Machines Do You Need for a 50m², 100m² or 200m² VR Arcade? 3

A Simple Formula for Estimating the Number of VR Machines

For an early estimate, venue owners can use the following calculation:

Estimated number of standard VR machines = Usable equipment area ÷ approximately 10m²

The usable equipment area is not always the same as the total venue area.

Reception, storage, rest areas, main passages and staff areas should be deducted first. Large multiplayer attractions should then be calculated separately because they may use much more space than a standard machine.

For example, if a 100m² venue reserves part of its space for reception, storage and customer circulation, the remaining equipment area may support approximately eight to ten machines, depending on the selected models.

This calculation is useful during the early budgeting stage. A final equipment list should be made with the actual dimensions of every machine.

Three Common Space-Planning Mistakes

1. Choosing Machines Before Reviewing the CAD Drawing

A product may look suitable online but may not fit through the entrance or work safely around columns, walls and emergency routes.

The CAD drawing should be checked before the equipment order is confirmed.

2. Installing Too Many Similar Machines

A venue with several machines but repetitive game content may still feel limited.

A stronger VR equipment mix includes different levels of difficulty and different types of experience, such as cinema, shooting, racing, interaction, competition and high-motion attractions.

3. Forgetting Queueing and Spectator Space

Popular machines attract both players and spectators. If the queue forms across the main walkway, it can affect the operation of nearby equipment.

Queueing and viewing areas should therefore be included in the floor plan from the beginning.

What Information Should You Provide Before Requesting a VR Arcade Plan?

To prepare a practical equipment proposal, the manufacturer should understand more than the venue size.

Venue owners should provide:

•  The CAD floor plan

•  Total usable area

•  Entrance and exit locations

•  Column and wall positions

•  Ceiling height

•  Target customer age groups

•  Local spending level

•  Investment budget

•  Preferred game categories

•  Information about nearby competitors

These details help the supplier decide how many machines can be installed and which equipment combination is suitable for the local market.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much space does one VR arcade machine need?

As an initial planning reference, one standard commercial VR machine may require approximately 10m² when part of its operating and circulation space is included. Compact seated equipment may require less, while high-motion and multiplayer products may require considerably more.

Can a 50m² VR arcade hold ten machines?

It may be physically possible with very small machines, but it is generally not recommended. A 50m² venue still needs safe walkways, player access, staff operating space and queueing areas. Four to five varied machines usually provide a more practical starting point.

Is it better to buy more single-player machines or fewer multiplayer machines?

This depends on the target customers. Single-player machines provide variety, while multiplayer machines can improve player capacity and are more suitable for families, groups and team-building customers. Venues larger than 50m² should normally consider a combination of single-player, two-player and multiplayer equipment.

What is the best VR equipment mix for a new arcade?

The best combination depends on venue size, customer age, local competition and budget. In most cases, the venue should include different content categories instead of purchasing several machines with similar games.

Plan the Equipment Around the Venue, Not the Other Way Around

A 50m² VR arcade may need four or five carefully selected machines. A 100m² venue may hold eight to ten, while a 200m² experience center may hold 14–18 standard machines or fewer machines combined with a large multiplayer VR Arena.

These figures provide a starting point. The final plan should be based on the CAD drawing, machine dimensions, safety clearance, customer flow and expected player capacity.
